Maria Victoria Quintana Argos

Blessed Rosary Soano (Petra Maria Victoria Quintana Argos)

"Take it as a token of my forgiveness."


Born 13 May 1866 in Soano (Santander, Spain), Petra (Pierrette) was the daughter of very Christian peasants, Antonio Quintana and Luisa Argos.

She was fourteen when her mother died, and had, in addition to field work, take care of the home and his little brothers and sisters.

In 1889, despite some reluctance family, she entered the Congregation of the recent Tertiary Capuchin Sisters of the Holy Family Shrine Montiel - Benaguacil (Valencia), convinced that God called him to his service.

In 1891, she made ​​her first profession with the name of Soano Rosario ( Rosario is a male and female name in Spain, implying Our Lady of the Rosary).

It was the convent of Masamagrell (Valencia).

In 1896 it issued perpetual vows and now brought to the ring finger of his "union" with Christ.

Jovial, affable character, both austere for itself and good for the poor, she was in turn responsible for alms for the monastery, elected mistress of novices, General Counsel from 1914 to 1926 and Superior General.

At the time of the revolution, she had to leave the convent with other sisters and find refuge in private homes.

Arrested Aug. 21 with two other Companions (Manuela FernΓ‘ndez and MarΓ­a Fenollosa) she was taken the next day on the road with Manuela Puzol.

When being shot without losing her composure, she took off her ring and gave it to his executioner, saying: Here, take it, it will be the sign that I have forgiven you.

Petra and Manuela were martyred August 22, 1936, and beatified in 2001.


Manuela FernΓ‘ndez Ibero Justa

Born August 6, 1872 at OchovΓ­ (Navarre, Spain), Manuela was the daughter of very Christian peasants, Juana Francisca and FernΓ‘ndez HilariΓ³n. 

She was fifteen years old when she entered the Congregation of the recent Tertiary Capuchin Sisters of the Holy Family.

She made her first profession in 1891 and worked actively in the educating  orphan girls, especially by collecting donations and alms for support.

She was elected superior local and was for thirty-six years, General Counsel.

She was known for her patience, humbleness, helpful nature and her devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.

In 1936, she entered  the convent of Massamagrell (Valencia).

At the time of the revolution, she had to leave the convent with other sisters and find refuge in private homes.

Arrested Aug. 21 with two other Companions (Quintana and Maria Piera Fenollosa) she was taken the next day on the road with Piera Puzol.
